The eco-sustainability of porcelain stoneware

Day by day we are becoming more and more aware of the negative impact that the human lifestyle is causing to planet Earth. For this reason, we must try to implement environmentally sustainable choices in every possible sphere of our lives, and construction is one of them!
Porcelain stoneware is, in fact, one of the best solutions both for its performance and versatility and for its eco-sustainability. In particular, its eco-sustainability can be seen both in its production process and in its use.

Why is porcelain stoneware good for the environment?

In most cases, recycled and recyclable materials are used during its production, and the finished product has a far greater durability than other materials (ceramic, for example, has an estimated durability of 60 years compared to the 15 of wood), also due to its high technicality; moreover, in most cases, maintenance can be carried out by acting only on the part in question, thus avoiding the waste of material that is still intact and suitable.

Once laid, porcelain stoneware is able to reduce heating and cooling peaks thanks to its thermal inertia, with consequent energy savings: this is one of the reasons porcelain stoneware is particularly suitable for underfloor heating systems, together with the fact that it is generally thinner than other materials, a factor guaranteeing more gradual, uniform and balanced heat transmission. In terms of wall coverings, porcelain stoneware is also the optimal remedy for striving for energy savings and thus making one's home more ecological.

Where to buy eco-sustainable porcelain stoneware?

For example, Atlas Concorde, but also Marazzi and Marca Corona - among the best ceramic brands we have selected for our customers - are involved in the installation of ventilated façades, i.e. the cladding of the outer façades of buildings using a special technique consisting in leaving an empty cavity between the insulating layer of the masonry and the outer porcelain stoneware cladding, so that air can circulate and thus prevent heat dispersion to the outside (in winter) or to the inside (in summer). At the same time, Florim has created the Sensi collection, which, in addition to being inspired by nature in its style, is also an example of circular economy in that, by using natural raw materials that are largely recycled, it applies a production system that is up to 100% sustainable. Gigacer also seeks sustainability in energy savings during cooking and transport processes, patenting thinner yet more efficient models.
